Do you suffer from anxiety? Discover how to overcome it.

Anxiety is the feeling of excessive fear and worry. It is extremely common to feel this way at some point in life, but when it persists and prevents you from carrying out daily activities, it’s important to seek help. According to the World Health Organization, anxiety disorders are the most common mental health conditions globally, affecting approximately 301 million people as of 2019. Only 1 in 4 people with anxiety receive treatment.

How is it Diagnosed?
Anxiety and worry are associated with three (or more) of the following six symptoms, and at least some symptoms have been present for more days than not over the past six months:

What are the Symptoms?

  • Feeling trapped or in imminent danger.
  • Difficulty concentrating or having a blank mind.
  • Irritability or restlessness.
  • Muscle tension.
  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep.

Anxiety can affect family, work, academic, and social areas.

How to Manage Anxiety?

  • Reduce caffeine and other central nervous system (CNS) stimulants.
  • Maintain a regular sleep routine.
  • Practice breathing exercises.
  • Identify triggers.
  • Practice mindfulness.
  • Minimize alcohol and other sedatives or hypnotics.
  • Regulate aerobic exercise, ensuring it lasts more than 20 minutes.
